At Felt Sense Psychotherapy we take an integrative approach to healing trauma.

Our treatment approach combines both top-down and bottom-up modalities to healing. Trauma is a somatic ("in the body") experience meaning it's experienced, stored, and relived in and through our bodies. In fact, trauma is defined as anything that is overwhelming to the nervous system! So the old talk-therapy approach or the "change your thoughts change your life" paradigm isn't quite enough.

Healing requires a felt sense of safety in your body and nervous system- it's not something you can simply think your way into.

Once you've done that, then we can get to work on creating more supportive beliefs, behaviors, and meanings. From here, we work to expand healing into your relationships with yourself, others, and the world around you.

Trauma makes it hard to feel safe in your body.

As a result, you end up feeling numb and disconnected. It’s like you’re never actually living in the present moment. You might find yourself constantly on edge, experiencing flashbacks, panic attacks, or feeling completely shut down and dissociated.

It feels like being on a roller coaster of endless ups and downs, never standing on solid ground.

You might have a hard time connecting with others, and it gets in the way of having healthy, stable relationships. Maybe you’ve been in talk-therapy before, but found you made little to no progress.

If you’re ready to get to the root of the problem, you’re in the right place.

Trauma disrupts your body’s natural rhythm. But the good news is-

Your body knows how to heal itself.

Our mission is to help restore your internal sense of balance.

From this balanced and regulated place you will gain increased confidence, self-awareness, and self-acceptance that make living in the present moment not only possible, but pleasurable. These goals are accomplished through incorporating somatic, or body based, practices with various psychotherapy approaches.

On a personal note-

I’m a Gemini sun and self-described empath with a thirst for learning. Soon after getting my feet wet in the human services field, I began connecting the dots that nearly everybody I encountered in both my personal and professional life had dealt with some type of trauma... yet, school left me feeling unprepared with how to help. I became more invested in understanding, and more intrigued with the wisdom our bodies hold. Entering the world of yoga in 2011 paved the way for a deeper appreciation of the body/mind/spirit. Unknowingly, it also set me on my own healing journey as I found balance from the anxiety and depression I struggled with throughout my adult life.

These days I have two little babes and a Plott hound that keep both myself and my husband on our toes! I love expressing myself through writing (have you checked out my blog?), and I find there’s nothing better for maintaining positive mental health than co-regulating with nature. Whether hiking along local trails or exploring by sea on my Stand Up Paddleboard, outside is where I love to be!
